The Sole Lookout Man

LOOKOUT-MAN CNIC LIMBE Just like the police who are in charge of the safety of their citizen in society against all criminal circumstances that prevail or may prevail. At Sea, we have the Lookout man. He is a member of the bridge team (consisting of; OOW, AB,  boatswain , deck cadet, officers, and the master). With these awesome team, the vessel can navigate safely through the random occuring obstacle at sea. There are different duties assigned to the lookout man based on the time of day, and weather conditions.  Either way, he/her main duty is to ensure the safe navigation of the vessel at Sea. The sole lookout man with undivided focus on the task at hand using all his senses, mainly sight and hearing to detect incoming dangers for the safe navigation of the vessel. He then reports to the OOW who processes the given information to the master or any superior of his on the vessel at the moment of need before immediate action is to be taken. Who can be the sole lookout onboard? In genera

International Women's Day

ðŸ§Happy International Women's Day🥂 It's been a promising year so far so good and most of us have successfully improved in our mishaps ways to better our tomorrow. One of the reasons, we are so successful is due to the prayers, motivation talk and sometimes even cursing of our parents 👪. Pushing us forward into the path laid before us. This is why, we of the kingcadet association thought it wise to appreciate our supporters and others around the world for sparking the way for one, so one can spark for another and another and so forth. Once again, thank you dearest mothers for letting your sons and daughters venture into these fields of business. We hope as you life on and across this day, so will we sail and come home once again into your comforting arms.

CALL, TIME OUT | SEAFARING FUTURE QUESTIONED

Sea view, limbe Greetings, ladies and gentlemen around the world. Fellow mariners aspiring for the spark of greatness. The is more to life than what the sea can offer . After all we all where born on solid soil. If SEA GOING is the goal and maybe due to some unexpected circumstances it fails what else can still be done with respect to the field you specialized in.? Have you every though of this before? Maritime institutes all across the world produce hundreds of new deck cadets and marine engineers each year. Each of these recent graduates aspires to one day make it big in the maritime industry by becoming a top-notch seafarer.  With their newfound knowledge and training, these officers join reputable maritime companies' ships, work for a few years, and try to advance their ranks. Despite very lucrative job offers, an exciting working environment, and a "globetrotting" lifestyle, the majority of these sailors prefer to leave their ship positions and take jobs ashore. This

Safety first 🗣👤🌊

It's not the first time a seafarer or someone falls from the ship into the ocean without a safety jacket. Still, we should be where that, not all falls guarantee safe come back.  As an officer, pilot and rating. We should make it a habit to always follow safety procedures except unorthodox circumstances show up. From the picture above you can see that the seafarer recently used the gangway to come down to the ladder before exiting the ship to the other vessel whose aim was to pick him/her up no matter the reason. All safety steps taken up till that point seemed safe and professional.  As we know but refuse to admit it, "Small changes/mistakes/corrections affected big conclusive results". Still from the picture, you can see that the sea level is not the best and it will be hard to hold to one's stability; if you were to stand in a vessel with less stability than the one you were on.  Nevertheless, before his/her fall without the safety jacket. If he/she held on to the

Connection| Potential| Ambition

Given all that was and what is to come, a common word links them all. The work connection. An ability to provide information of all shapes and kind to none common sense sigma. This ability existed long before the creation of mankind.  In the world we leave today, 3 things matter the most for a successful career. There are as follows; Connections It can be viewed in two or more ways but, I know of two only beings; YOU KNOW WHO AND WHO KNOWS. Most of us got to thank our parents, relatives or many other unknown characters that help us achieve our goals behind closes doors. Most opportunities like travelling abroad were preorganized before we even had the time to say, "Why". Knowing different people, cultures and breaking past language barriers has proven to be a source of opportunity to achieve even greater dreams over the sky . For example, a poor boy can only dream below his ceiling which is what is imaginary and real to reach but is also impossible from where they are now. Th

FRIENDSHIP

Merry Christmas, Dear Friendly Society And Happy New Year Once again, I will like to thank all of you guys for the warm support of viewing my BLOG /channel these past few months generating over 5k views time. Moreover, it is December the Christmas season of the year, where the beach are dazzling with goodies of all shapes and sizes. A period where saved money is spend and where spent money is saved. Most of us are waiting for a friend or two to visit or even take us out. But forget that, love is 50%-50% on each side of the coin and without proper invitations and meaningful connections, it is possible no one will show up. Friends come and go in different times of our life. Some stay too long and others leave too soon. But one thing in common, we share most is wonderful memories of the time we spend together with each other. Just like the sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening.  In the movies, where you see two good friends end up being enemie

LEADERSHIP

👮‍♂️ Is leadership what it is or what you think it is? Leadership has been addressed similarly in different historical biblical stories around the world. Some showcase, strength, courage, smartness, and discipline of a person taking a stand against all odds. Demonstrating a strong moral character which builds; Respect, Integrity, Courage, and a sound moral compass. Such influential drag people to recognise what they lack in themselves. Leaving them wanting the desirable. What is leadership base on? "Authority" and "Power". It's only natural for the strong to suppress and rule over the weak. Tell me what do you think "Are Leaders are born or made"? We have heard of leaders that were born to lead like kings and Queens. A generation upon generation nobles living the glory of their ancestors. We have also heard about leaders that had to go through the struggle of life and due to their drive others got the necessary inspiration to improve. Type of leadersh

RULES ARE RULES

Greetings ladies and gentltemen,  Dear Cadet and wanna be(s),         I greet you all. Today, I learn that rules are rules, they can not be broken or be bent without consequences. It doesn't only have an effect on the physical aspects of life but also the mental aspect. We are all playing a game of games, with pivots, traps, and overall bosses who always have the final say. For example, let's take the least of activities like morning brushing of teeth. You did just decide that today morning you will go brush your teeth somebody decided that a long time ago and made it mandatory to help you. Yes, that's part of the reason. But also because he/she saw an opportunity to make a living by making what his/her wants into your need. That's all for the physical aspect. Now for the mental aspect, we all like the government, doctors, teachers, and entertainers for the life-up boost they give us, with whatever they do or say that works to benefit us. But we have forgotten that they

CRANEAGE OPERATION PROCEDURE & SAFETY MEASURES

Have you ever been on a vessel with a crane? Even if so, this article might be enlightening to you. ship cranes are all the same except in terms of capacity, as some outperform others. Modern-day cargo vessels and some tug boats have cranes installed on them due to the need to load and offload material from one ship to another without any incident. That's why we have crane officers who use the so-called sign language International known in the marine industry in operation with the crane operator as a guide on how to execute a successful craneage operation. 3.1 some problems encountered Before the craneage operation FORWARD HEADING LOOK OF A TUG BOAT ⛵ Before any operation is usually carried out, a toolbox talk is carried on to discuss with the team involved on how they will carry out the job with respect to the JHA (Job hazards analysis) and how to avoid or prevent them or how to move on in case it still occurs. The job is analyzed most of the time based on; health, efficiency, a

Alpha Hawk and RT MARGO work hand in hand to remove Milaha Explorer from jetty at CNIC LIMBE

1400hour LT Cameroon - Limbe, Milaha Explorer vessel requested assistance to get out of the jetty of CNIC LIMBE. Two vessels namely Alpha Hawk and RT MARGO assisted this event. The process was simple in theory but complex in practice. Nevertheless, Milaha Explorer was removed successfully and towed its way out of the key. This exploit was performed by Cameroonian Seafarer who gave it their all in achieving this task with efficiency and effectiveness.  Towing the ship was through the difficult part.         M.V Alpha Hark and RT Margo had to pull the vessel at its port and starboard respectively. If not the vessel might have rolled horizontally into the Sea. RT MARGO had to lash their rope for a few meters to reduce the tension in the rope; this safety measure is not taken by most towing vessels at sea and thus, we find cases like the vessels back lass destroying a part of the vessel or in the worst scenario ending someone's life. You can see from the picture or videos seafarers in

Death On Duty Or Rescued

Merci! A man was rescued after his cargo ship sank in the Sea last Saturday. According to marine accident specialist investigation the man spent 48 hours in the Sea praying and floating with the help of a life jacket. The man was rescued by marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd and the Liberian coastguard off the West African Nation (WAN). The Niko Ivanka cargo ship has left the Liberian capital Monrovia on July 17th even after it was forbidden to do so due to the failure to meet basic safety requirements. Later that afternoon, the ship's crew sent a distress signal; the ship had partially sunk by the time help arrived. They were 19 people on board as per the official records. 11 people were rescued within 36 hours after the distress signal was sent, Liberian Maritime Authority spokesman, Eugene Nagbe said, "However, the people who were rescued from the waters said that there were 28 people on the ship. This means that 17 people are still unaccounted for. Liberia'

Day Of The Seafarer

A lot of people now our days celebrate this June 25th as 'Seafarers Day' including seafarers themselves but have no idea what this day is all about each year. I don't even know why? I guess some teens people just like partying for no reason; Well that's a reason, as far as I can tell, it might have been on that day the first successful voyage of a crew of 40 members attempted the sea and returned safely after exploration is met. " The Day of the Seafarer was first celebrated in 2011, following its establishment by a resolution adopted by the Conference of Parties to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, held in Manila, Philippines, in June 2010, which adopted major revisions to the STCW Convention and Code.   The Day of the Seafarer has now been included in the annual list of United Nations Observances." The Day of the Seafarer provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the world's

One Step At A Time 👊

👊  A wise man once told me "With Time Comes Great Achievements" and each achievement comes at a loss for a gain, for its only true pain that will tell if victory is worth the shoot. We were told that Like most people today,  where they are is not because of their merit but because of someone, who values your ambition and took the risk to speak up on your behave behind those closed Doors. So that you might get what you want. Others will say the system is encrypted only for those with connections but, did you ever think of what they went through in other to achieve that so call GOAL? did you consider the sleepless nights, hour upon hours of hard work? It is also true that favor place its part, but for the favor to manifest the most be effort, not just any kind of effort but EFFORT OF A KIND. The kind that doesn't go unnoticed. The kind that you build not by pearly tricks, but mere knowledge of what is expected of you. Below is an inspirational message for which I don't

Undergraduate Deck officer discover the secrets to chartwork, the result might surprise you

Just as the need for knowledge, wisdom and communication grow, the need for knowing the position and location of people, object or phenomenon where needed which brought about the discovery of maps; they describe an area, venues or zone. Its first development was with a sketch before the 1st century when an African known as Ra Edugo was telling his younger brother where they leave. So that in case he gets missing he could find his way home. The head villager appointed him to draw the route of every land they encounter. It's from this sketches that the first sea map separating two continents was drawn. Also know as continental map. This later on brought explorers like Christopher Columbus to evolve it to chart work and use it in the discovery of the world. In our era, we have grown so advance that we have additional navigational aids like; Radar, GPS, Sextant just to name a few. CASE STUDY NB: For most chart this days;Yellow stands for land, Blue stands for
